Bristol Race Review and Analysis

The Bristol night race!  The Nascar Cup Series visited Bristol Motor Speedway, located in Bristol, Tennesse for a showdown.  Christopher Buescher takes home the checkered flag!  This is Buescher’s 2nd career win and 1st of the 2022 season.  Christopher Buescher collects the first win for the newly branded Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing.  RFK Racing now has their first win since July of 2017 at Daytona International Speedway with Ricky Stenhouse Jr.  This is also Chris Buescher’s first win since 2016 at Pocono Raceway.

Today was wild in Bristol let’s recap what happened.  J.J. Yeley and Harrison Burton had flat tires both on lap 41.  Austin Cindric had a tire issue on lap 63.  Ryan Blaney had a series of issues, that all stemmed from a tire issue on lap 92.  Brad Keselowski was the stage 1 winner for RFK Racing.  Harrison Burton had a second right front tire issue during stage 2.  23XI Racing’s night took a bad turn.  A common theme tonight was the loss of power steering.  Bubba Wallace was one of the first victims of the loss of power steering.  Wallace had shining fluid drenched all over his left front tire.  Wallace was able to continue but he was numerous laps down.  Ty Gibbs, the teammate to Wallace at 23XI Racing, saw mechanical issues as well.  Ryan Blaney’s team took their #12 car to the garage, after extensive work needed to be done.  Harrison Burton had another right front tire go down on his #21 machine.  Burton’s miserable night continued.  In avoidance of spinning Burton, Erik Jones spun.  Jones was able to continue.  Martin Truex Jr.’s bad luck continued.  Truex Jr. saw a mechanical failure under the hood for the #19 car.  Denny Hamlin had a right front tire go flat with 14 laps to go in stage 2.  Christopher Bell was the stage 2 winner for Joe Gibbs Racing.  Kyle Busch saw an engine failure on his #18 machine, on a rough night for Toyota.  In one of the more unexpected moves, heading into turn 1 on the straightaway, Daniel Suarez set off a wreck.  Suarez collected, Todd Gilliland, Alex Bowman, Austin Dillon, and Tyler Reddick.  Erik Jones had a right rear flat towards the end of tonight’s race.  Austin Cindric had a tire issue once again, but this time in the final stage.  Joey Logano had a flat right front tire.  Ty Gibbs had the hood up on his #23 machine.  Gibbs was officially done for the night.  While leading, Brad Keselowski had a tire go flat.  With 82 laps to go, Ryan Blaney had a tire go flat.  Aric Almirola went to the garage with 75 laps to go.  Christopher Bell had a tire issue while leading.  Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin had issues with tightening wheels on pit road.  Ty Dillon had a tire go down with 42 laps to go.  Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson tangled towards the end of the race.

Let’s go through the playoff field.  Chase Eliott advances to the round of 12, and he finished 2nd for Hendrick Motorsports.  William Byron advances to the round of 12 for Hendrick Motorsports, he finished 3rd.  Christopher Bell for Joe Gibbs Racing finished 4th, he’ll advance.  Kyle Larson will advance for Hendrick Motorsports, he finished 5th.  Ross Chastain for Trackhouse Racing finished 6th, he will move on to the round of 12.  Denny Hamlin finished 9th for Joe Gibbs Racing, he will advance.  Kevin Harvick finished 10th for Stewart-Haas Racing, he has been eliminated from playoff contention.  Chase Briscoe finished 14th, he’ll advance for Stewart-Haas Racing.  Daniel Suarez for Trackhouse Racing will advance, he finished 19th.  Austin Cindric finished 20th, he’ll advance.  Tyler Reddick for Richard Childress Racing finished 25th, he will not advance.  Joey Logano finished 27th, he’ll advance for Team Penske.  Ryan Blaney finished 30th, he’ll advance for Team Penske.  Austin Dillon will not advance for Richard Childress Racing, he finished 31st.  Alex Bowman finished 32nd, for Hendrick Motorsports, he will advance.  Kyle Busch will not advance for Joe Gibbs Racing, he finished 34th.

Today top finishers were Chris Buescher in 1st for RFK Racing.  Followed by Chase Elliott for Hendrick Motorsports in 2nd, William Byron for Hendrick Motorsports in 3rd.  Christopher Bell in 4th for Joe Gibbs Racing, along with Kyle Larson for Hendrick Motorsports in 5th.  Sixth place goes to Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing.  Seventh place goes to A.J. Allmendinger of Kaulig Racing.  Cole Custer collects 9th place for Stewart-Haas Racing.  10th place goes to Kevin Harvick of Stewart-Haas Racing.  11th place goes to Michael McDowell of Front Row Motorsports.  12th place is solidified by Justin Haley of Kaulig Racing.  Brad Keselowski collects 13th for RFK Racing.  Chase Briscoe captures 14th for Stewart-Haas Racing.  Corey LaJoie collects 15th place for Spire Motorsports.  Honorable mentions go out to Harrison Burton on a dreadful, rebounding night in 16th for Wood Brothers Racing.  Cody Ware of Rick Ware Racing in 17th.  Todd Gilliland in 18th, for Front Row Motorsports.

In my opinion, tonight was stellar.  We saw upwards of 100 thousand fans in attendance at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Tires were a major issue, that needs to be fixed.  Passing was more difficult than it had to be.  We saw 15-second lap times in qualifying on Saturday.  The iconic Bristol Night Race was delivered once again.  Taking all action into consideration, I’d rate tonight’s race a 9.2 out of 10.
