Homestead-Miami Race Review and Analysis

The long-awaited return to Homestead-Miami, Florida. After a year and a half, the Nascar Cup Series made its return to Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kyle Larson, in a dominant, and almost perfect afternoon, took home the checkered flag.  This is Larson's 3rd win of the 2022 season and the 19th of his career.  Larson swept both stages 1 and 2.

Let’s go through today’s race, John Hunter Nemechek, after running 4th for most of stage 1, spun coming out of turn 1.  This derailed Nemechek’s promising weekend, as he finished 27th.  Chase Briscoe, who is now in a must-win situation, was done for the day by the end of stage 2. After contact with the outside wall, Briscoe’s afternoon was done. Tyler Reddick had a hard hit into the outside wall with 22 laps to go. Reddick, running the outside lane, got loose, and made heavy contact with the inside wall on the back straightaway, coming out of turn 2. Lastly, Kyle Larson spun Martin Truex Jr. on pit road. Truex was pitting from the lead, where he restarted 19th afterward.  Truex Jr. slowed as he almost missed his pit box, which factored into the close call safety-wise for the #19 pit crew.

Let’s go through today’s playoff field.  Joey Logano comes home 18th for Team Penske, as he has no worries heading into Phoenix, with a win at Las Vegas.  Ross Chastain finished 2nd for Trackhouse Racing.  Chastain ran stellar all afternoon.  Chase Elliott crosses the line 14th for Hendrick Motorsports. Elliott tried to make a push late in the race but ultimately faded.  William Byron finished 12th for Hendrick Motorsports.  Byron holds the 4th and final spot to advance to Phoenix heading into Martinsville.  Denny Hamlin comes home 7th for Joe Gibbs Racing.  Hamlin did a solid job, all afternoon long.  Ryan Blaney clocks in 17th for Team Penske, after an up-and-down day.  Christopher Bell finished 11th for Joe Gibbs Racing, he must win next weekend in Martinsville.  Adding to the list of must-win situations is Chase Briscoe, after a 36th-place finish, a win is the goal for next weekend.

Notable finishes come from A.J. Allmendinger in 2nd for Kaulig Racing.  Austin Dillon is in 4th for Richard Childress Racing.  Brad Keselowski is in 5th for RFK Racing.  Martin Truex Jr. in 7th for Joe Gibbs Racing, and Kevin Harvick in 8th for Stewart-Haas Racing.  Kyle Busch in 9th for Joe Gibbs Racing, along with Daniel Suarez in 10th for Trackhouse Racing.  Honorable mentions go out to Chris Buescher in the 13th position for RFK Racing.  Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is in 15th for JTG Daugherty Racing.  Lastly, Michael McDowell follows in16th for Front Row Motorsports.

In my opinion, today was solid. We saw the great racing product that Homestead-Miami Speedway produces.  Tire wear was significant as always, which was interesting to see.  Kyle Larson put on a show, all day long.  Taking all action into consideration, I’d rate today’s race a 9.0 out of 10. Bubba Wallace coming off of a one race suspension, for on-track issues last weekend with Kyle Larson, will return starting at Martinsville this upcoming weekend.

Martinsville, October style!  The Nascar Cup Series will head to Martinsville Speedway, in Ridgeway, Virginia for a showdown.  The Camping World Truck Series will have the weekend off.  Xfinity Series practice and qualifying will start at 4:00pm ET Friday afternoon.  The race to advance to Phoenix, Dead on Tools 250 Xfinity Series race, will be at 3:00pm ET only on NBC.  The Cup Series will have practice and qualifying starting at 12:00pm ET on Saturday.  The cutoff race to Phoenix,  Xfinity 500 Cup Series race will be at 2:30pm ET only on NBC.
