20 Turns of Madness: Circuit of the Americas Race Review and Analysis

Road course racing in Texas!  The Nascar Cup Series visited Circuit of the Americas, as Tyler Reddick in dominate fashion took home the checkered flag.  Leading 41 laps, Reddick was the class of the field as he collects his 4th career win, the 3rd of his career on a road course, and the 1st of the 2023 season.  The 27-year old joins Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Kyle Busch, William Byron, and Joey Logano as the only drivers locked into the playoffs.

Entering this weekend, riding momuteum, and sustaining it is key heading into the April portion of the schedule.  Reddick headlines the weekend for 23XI Racing, as Kyle Busch slots in 2nd for Richard Childress Racing.  Alex Bowman crosses the line 3rd, as history repeats its self with multiple run-ins at Circuit of the Americas, with Ross Chastain in 4th for Trackhouse Racing.

Rounding out the top-5 is William Byron for Hendrick Motorsports, who led 28 laps, following Byron is Austin Cindric for Team Penske in 6th.  Seventh place is awarded to Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for JTG Daughtery, with Chris Buescher for RFK Racing in 8th.  Ninth goes to Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing, as the 20-year old is starting to string together competitive finishes, and rounding out the top-10 is Todd Gilliland in 10th for Front Row Motorsports after running a great race.

Honorable mentions go to Corey LaJoie in 11th for Spire Motorsports, Micheal McDowell in 12th for Front Row Motorsports, along with Kevin Harvick in 13th for Stewart-Haas Racing.  The final set of shoutouts go to Kyle Larson in a rebound day for Hendrick Motorsports in 14th, and Chase Briscoe in 15th for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Scaling a few position down from Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr., Rick Ware Racing’s Jenson Button crosses the line 18th in a stellar Cup Series debut.

Although it took three overtime restarts to eventually decided today’s contest, no stage caution were a quality addition to today’s on-track product.  Crew chief, and driver strategies kicked in, as parity was the name of the game, with nine different organizations in the top-10.  Taking this weekend’s action into consideration, I’d score today’s contest a 9.2 out of 10.

Leaving  COTA behind, Bubba Wallace, Brad Keselowski, A.J. Allmendinger, Austin Dillon, Ryan Preece and Christopher Bell are looking for bounce back weekends heading into Richmond.
