"Daytona Race Review"

A Saturday night thriller! The Nascar Cup Series raced under the lights at Daytona International Speedway located in Daytona Beach, Florida, for the “ Coke Zero Sugar 400”. Ryan Blaney for the second week in a row wins in a wild last lap. This is Blaney’s 3rd win of the 2021 season and 7th of his career. This win gives Blaney and the 12 team great momentum heading into the playoffs.

Today’s race was untamed, from TV network issues, to playoff drama, to ferocious wrecks and more. Race fans have seen it all today. First, let's take a dive into TV drama, today was awful for TV scheduling. Nascar had a weekend where tonight’s race was going to be nationally televised. All fans were informed by NBCSN broadcasters, that pre race coverage for the race was switching to its regular slot on NBC from 7:00 to 11:00. That didn’t happen, a good percent of people could not view the race for two hours due to Pre Season football. Meaning in the time slot Nascar was supposed to air, it didn’t for a vast majority of people due to football running past schedule. This led to many people being upset for missing the first two hours of tonight’s race. Most people couldn't view tonight's race until 9:00pm eastern.

Playoff drama, the Nascar regular season wrapped up giving Kyle Larson the regular season championship. Along with this, there was one playoff spot left. 15 drivers were competing for that last spot, with the majority wrecking out due to late race cautions. But Tyler Reddick claims the spot, by holding off Austin Dillion and company for the chance to compete for a championship. This race came down to the wire, with two late race cautions and an overtime victory by Ryan Blaney.

In my opinion today’s race was pretty good. Besides the TV drama, today’s action was above average. Alot was shown today as the regular season comes to an end. Nascar introduced a new package for racing due to Joey Logano's flip at Talladega, it was half an half for me. But otherwise caution and wrecks on the final laps spiced today up. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Overall I’d give today a 9.5 out of 10. This was a nice way to close out the regular season.

The 2021 Playoff standings

Exiting tonight is a brand new ball game. The 2021 Nascar playoffs, 16 drivers will have a chance to win a championship. After 26 long weeks, from February 14th to August 28th the playoffs are here! This is a 10 race format concluding on November 7th, in the desert at Phoenix Raceway. But for now, Labor day weekend is next. The Nascar Cup Series will head to Darlington Raceway located in Darlington, South Carolina for the “Southern 500”. The Nascar Cup Series will take on the track “too tough to tame”, 6:00pm Sunday September 5th only on NBCSN.
